Two shipwrecked boaters in Jamaica Bay were rescued Tuesday afternoon after a police helicopter saw them stranded on an island, according to the NYPD.
Cops say the chopper crew were flying over the area around 2:40 p.m. when they spied the victims, a 50-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man, with their beached boat.
After calling for a second aircraft, a sergeant from the first helicopter was able to rappel down and hoist the pair to safety.
The ill-fated boaters were stranded off the coast of Canarsie Pol, a small uninhabited island in the Gateway National Wildlife Refuge.
