NYPD officers on Sunday morning rescued a man who was threatening to jump off of the Williamsburg Bridge, officials said.
The shirtless man climbed a beam on the span at about 9:30 a.m. and held on to the bridge’s cables until NYPD officers took him into custody at about 10:45 a.m., authorities said.

“Every day, #NYPD cops perform amazing acts of bravery and heroism, all in the name of keeping NYers safe,” NYPD commissioner James O’Neill wrote on Twitter after the rescue. “Outstanding work. Stay safe.”
Car traffic over the bridge and subway service on lines that cross the span were stopped during the rescue operation, officials said.
