The NYPD’s investigation of Eric Garner’s chokehold death is “for all practical purposes done” – but the department won’t take administrative action against the cops until the federal government completes its civil rights probe, Commissioner Bill Bratton said Friday.

“We are ready to proceed with our administrative procedures once the U.S. attorney decides whether or not they are going to find a civil rights violation in the case,” the city’s top cop said.

Sunday marks two years since Garner died after he was wrestled to the ground while being arrested for selling loose cigarettes on the street. A Staten Island grand jury declined to indict officer Daniel Pantaleo for his role in the death, but he still faces potential civil rights charges. Federal prosecutors began presenting evidence to a grand jury in Brooklyn in February.

“The federal government has requested that we hold out on an administrative investigation until they finish their civil rights investigation,” Bratton pointed out. “We will await the outcome of that. I would point out that the investigations have taken almost two years…. It’s a very complicated case.”
