The NYPD is searching for a fugitive who was arrested for robbery but escaped from custody in handcuffs at a Brooklyn hospital Wednesday morning, police said.

Akeem Williams, 21, was taken to Brookdale Hospital after he “complained of chest pains,” the NYPD said.

“The individual was rear cuffed at the time and was able to bring his hands forward and exit the hospital on foot and fled in an unknown direction,” cops said.

Williams, of Saratoga Avenue in Brooklyn, shed his shirt and shoes before fleeing. A photo released by police shows him running from the hospital, shirtless and wearing white pants.

The NYPD didn’t immediately provide details about the robbery when asked. Cops were searching for him in the surrounding area.

The hospital has been hit hard by COVID-19 cases and only had one bed available as of Tuesday, state data shows.
