An NYPD cop shot and wounded a 17-year-old suspect after the teenager allegedly picked up a purple gun from the ground during a foot chase in Brooklyn Thursday afternoon, according to police.

The teen was shot once in the thigh after coming face-to-face – about 15 feet apart — with officers in East Flatbush, NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said during a news briefing.

A sergeant and three officers originally tried to break up a fight among eight people, mostly teenagers and young adults, around 3:15 p.m. when they saw a female involved drop a bag next to the suspect on a Razor scooter, Chell said.

While the female was quickly arrested, the suspect quickly took off with the scooter.  

As authorities searched for the teenager, an officer spotted him emerging from a driveway and started chasing him.

During the pursuit, the suspect dropped a 9-millimeter purple gun as he turned the corner on East 96th Street and Clarkson Avenue, Chell said.

“As the male goes to pick up the gun now face to face with our officer he is given repeated instructions not to pick up that firearm at which time he does,” Chell said. “Our officer to defend himself fires one round, striking the male on the right thigh.”

The encounter took place in a matter of seconds, he said.

The suspect was arrested and quickly helped by officers who applied a tourniquet around the wound, Chell said. He was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

“These officers from the (67th precinct) prevented an innocent person from getting shot with that gun that we know is on that scene with that group of people fighting,” Chell said.

Authorities are investigating what was in the bag and what sparked the street fight. 

Another 17-year-old was charged with attempted murder after he and cops exchanged gunfire during a chase in the Bronx Wednesday, police said.

The suspect in the case allegedly fired first, leading officers to shoot back, the NYPD said. No one was injured during the shooting.
