NYPD officers fatally shot an armed man after a brief foot chase in Brooklyn on Sunday morning, cops and sources said.
Six officers were called to East 86th Street at just after 9 a.m. on a report of a 28-year-old suspect who had violated an order of protection and encountered a man with a gun leaving the building, police said.
“When officers arrive on the scene, they encounter a subject who matched the description provided by the reporter, leaving the building. As they approached that individual, he fled,” Giordano said.

The gun the man was armed with during the chase. LP Media“That gun was out and it was in his hand, this was a very close encounter,” Assistant Chief Francis Francis A. Giordano told reporters at a news conference at the scene.
The suspect ran from officers on foot, with the gun in his hand, officials said. The suspect did not fire any shots and cops said they tried to get him to drop the gun.
“They ordered him, he was ordered numerous times, multiple times to drop that weapon,” Giordano said. “After repeated warnings were given to drop his weapon, and the subject did not comply with those orders, the subject was shot in his chest.”
The cops handcuffed the suspect and called an ambulance, but ended up rushing him in their squad car to NYC Health + Hospitals / Kings County, where he was pronounced dead.
“We wanted to save his life so we transported him right to the hospital,” Giordano said.

There had been two prior domestic violence reports regarding the suspect and the woman who called 911, said Giordano.
She had called the police because the man had been harassing her at her door. She also told cops she’s been actively pursuing a restraining order against him.
His identity wasn’t immediately released.
