Hold your horses.
The NYPD has delayed a plan to relocate from its century-old TriBeCa stable after meeting with community-board members who expressed concerns about neighborhood safety and historic preservation.
Officials were looking into moving the stables to Midtown and using the Varick Street site as a temporary home for its still-unbuilt World Trade Center command post. But after a meeting Thursday with TriBeCa’s Community Board 1, the department decided to put off a move.
“The NYPD has agreed to first consider the board’s concerns before moving forward with the stable’s conversion,” said department spokesman Paul Browne.
Community Board 1 Chairwoman Julie Menin said that while some residents hated to see the stable moved to another neighborhood, her main concern was for local safety.
“Why can’t we just get a permanent center built?” Menin said. “The main issue here is about much more than the horses.”
