Residents of the Manhattan shelter that housed a serial rapist recently accused of attacking a woman at a bar were such a menace to the neighborhood that the NYPD has ramped up its presence at a nearby hospital, The Post has learned.

As The Post revealed earlier this month, the Bellevue Men’s Shelter housed 60 sexual predators very close to two schools — including Rodney Stover, who is accused of raping a woman in a local bar’s bathroom.

Amid outcry from residents, the city shipped many of the assailants to Brooklyn. But the problems with the shelter had been well-known to nearby NYU Langone Medical Center.

Police promised a 24/7 marked cop car and an unmarked police car to the area near the hospital between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. when creeps terrorized and robbed several medical students and staff near the hospital earlier this year.

Alia Hassan, a 27-year-old student, said shelter residents are constantly harassing them.

“There are a lot of sexual advances, a lot of yelling,” she said. “Sometimes they will block a sidewalk so it is hard to go around.”

One female hospital worker was terrified when a 6-foot man cornered her in April, a source said.

The woman screamed at him, and he finally backed away. The hospital added a security van and escort service, sources said.

“I know a couple people got robbed,” said Rhea, an admissions-desk nurse. “Security has been telling us to walk in twos.”

The Post has also learned that the shelter was able to get around a City Council law passed in 1998 that limited shelters to 200 beds.

A loophole grandfathered in shelters that were already larger than the new restricted size.

“It’s ridiculous that in a corridor surrounded by all levels of educational facilities, hospitals, the city’s child-welfare center and state-of-the-art biotech labs, the city plops a gigantic men’s homeless shelter,” said one source.

“Making it unsafe for the students, the workers, and the entire neighborhood.”
