New York State Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay announced Monday that he has tested positive for the coronavirus.

“As a precautionary measure, I took a COVID-19 test today. Regrettably, I have tested positive for the virus,” the Republican lawmaker said in a statement.

“Out of an abundance of caution, I feel it important to inform the members of the community and my colleagues,” he said.

Barclay, whose upstate district covers Jefferson, Onondaga, Oswego counties, said he has not left the region since a trip to Albany early last week.

He also said he has not left his home much over the past several days.

“Since the start of the outbreak, I have taken social-distancing guidelines and prevention protocols very seriously, and I encourage others to continue to do so,” Barclay said.
