President Obama has extended his condolences to the family of a 6-year-old New York City girl who died from a rare form of leukemia just weeks after they met.

Jasmina Anema died Wednesday in Manhattan. She was diagnosed last January.

In a statement yesterday, Obama said Jasmina “showed tremendous bravery in the face of adversity.”

Jasmina visited the White House and chatted with the president for about 10 minutes in December.

Her need for a transplant prompted thousands of people to donate bone marrow.

In June, she underwent a transplant. But because the donor wasn’t a perfect match, her body rejected the marrow.
