Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez revealed Wednesday night that her tony Washington, DC, apartment is still unfurnished — and she sleeps with her mattress on the floor.
The Bronx Democratic congresswoman made the remarks during an hour-long Instagram live video, where she assembled IKEA furniture while fielding questions from viewers.
“My apartment is like unfurnished,” said Ocasio-Cortez in the opening minutes of the video. “I’ve been living like a completely depraved lifestyle,” she joked.
Ocasio-Cortez blamed her empty digs on her busy schedule.
But while erecting a tray table and a desk from the Swedish retailer, the freshman lawmaker touched on an array of current affairs — from improving veterans affairs, to President Trump’s tax returns, to what happens when she confronts Republicans.
When answering why she feels the GOP dislikes her, Ocasio-Cortez said it’s because she “confronts them directly.”
Her confrontations incite the Republicans to “act like the girl in ‘The Exorcist’ that’s like vomiting pea soup,” said Ocasio-Cortez.
The Instagram video paused on several occasions, which Ocasio-Cortez blamed on her lack of internet.
The congresswoman’s DC pad is reportedly in an upscale part of the capital where rents range from $2,000 for a studio apartment to over $5,000 for a three-bedroom.
