Police say an off-duty New York City officer lost control of his motorcycle on a Queens highway, crashed in to a guard rail and died.

Police say 27-year-old Philip Clemens was traveling north on the Cross Island Parkway on his 2001 Suzuki GSX motorcycle when it crashed Wednesday night.

Clemens died at a nearby hospital early Thursday. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The officer was assigned to the 100th Precinct and had been on the job since 2006.
