HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. — An officer who pulled over a car following a holdup at a Long Island fast-food restaurant shot and wounded one of the car’s occupants, who turned out not to be a suspect in the robbery.
Police say the shooting happened at 4 a.m. Monday in Huntington Station.
Shortly after three suspects robbed a Taco Bell of an undetermined amount of cash, police stopped a car believed to be involved in the holdup. During the stop, a 31-year-old man in the car was shot by an officer.
The man suffered an abdominal wound and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Police said further investigation showed that the three men in the car were not involved in the fast-food robbery.
No officers were injured.
