Recent violence against Rikers Island guards can be blamed on reforms being pushed by Department of Correction head Joe Ponte and Mayor de Blasio, the officers’ union charged on Friday.

“We have an unprecedented security crisis facing New York City Correction Officers on Rikers Island,” Elias Husamudeen, the union president, wrote to members.

Husamudeen demanded that prisoners who assault officers be “sent to a different jail system where punitive segregation exists” — in reference to Ponte and de Blasio’s efforts to reduce solitary confinement.
