NEWARK, N.J. — New Jersey prosecutors plan to release more information Tuesday about the fatal shooting of an unarmed Georgia banker by an undercover police detective.
Officials say the detective, whose name has not been released, was investigating reports of sexual activity in Newark’s Branch Brook Park when he “tussled” with Defarra Gaymon around 6 p.m. Friday.
The 48-year-old married father of four was shot once in the chest.
The Suwanee, Ga., resident had returned to New Jersey attend to 30th reunion for his Montclair High School class.
Gaymon was president and CEO of Credit Union of Atlanta.
A spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office says the detective gave a statement to investigators on Monday afternoon.
