A woman was killed and nine others were injured in a fire that tore through a Washington Heights apartment building early Friday morning, fire officials said.
The 41-year-old victim died when the flames ripped through the fourth floor of the five-story building on St. Nicholas Avenue near Amsterdam Avenue about 12:45 a.m., authorities said.
Police identified the woman as Natacha Paulema.
Firefighters responded to the scene soon after the blaze erupted and were able to put the fire out by about 1:45 a.m.
Aside from the woman, who died in her home, eight people were seriously injured and one other person suffered minor injuries.
The FDNY transported the victims to area hospitals.
It was not immediately clear what sparked the blaze.
