A helicopter crash near Storm King Mountain north of New York City left at least one person dead on Sunday, state police said.

First responders responded to the crash near State Route 218 in Cornwall, Orange County, at 2:30 p.m., police said in a statement.

The Robinson R44 helicopter’s pilot was its sole passenger, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. He was pronounced dead at the scene by police.

An investigation by the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board is underway,  federal officials said.

Storm King Mountain is located about 50 miles north of New York City.
