The city has secured the commitment of two hospital systems that deliver one-quarter of the city’s babies to implement mandatory screening of all new moms for depression, officials announced Tuesday.
NYC Health & Hospitals, the public-health system that operates 11 hospitals, and Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, have signed on.
First Lady Chirlane McCray — a former communications staffer at Maimonides who announced the initiative as part of her upcoming mental-health reform platform — said more than 12,000 new moms in the city per year are affected by maternal depression.
