‘Oscar night’ court
I’d like to thank the district attorney . . .
An NYU-educated financial wizard who with his wife and college buddies scammed banks out of nearly $1 million expressed such gratitude at being sentenced to probation yesterday that a Brooklyn judge said it sounded like he was giving an Oscar-night acceptance speech.
John Tluczek, 39, pleaded guilty in April to scheming to defraud and eight counts of grand larceny.
“I greatly appreciate and greatly cherish the opportunity for a second chance,” Tluczek said, thanking the judge, the prosecutors, his lawyers and his wife, a participant in the scam.
“It was beginning to sound like an Academy Awards speech,” Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice John Walsh quipped.
