The Port Authority’s failure to maintain a quarter-mile section of fencing adjacent to Kennedy Airport is but the latest thing to go wrong with a $100 million, state-of-the-art security system, security experts say.
A section of the fencing next to a runway along Jamaica Bay went down during recent bad weather — leaving the entire airport vulnerable, they charge.
A PA spokesman has insisted that security was not compromised, but others have cited this as one of many problems with the Perimeter Intrusion Detection System, or PIDS, which was highly touted when it was purchased from Raytheon in 2009.
