The failure of the high-tech perimeter-security system at Kennedy Airport is secretly exploding the budget of the financially strapped Port Authority, The Post has learned.
Just six weeks after The Post revealed that a stranded jet-skier was able to accidentally bypass the vaunted $100 million Perimeter Intrusion Detection System, PA officials confirmed they have already spent $1 million to cover posts that were supposed to be guarded electronically by the PIDS.
Those expenses are on track to easily surpass $10 million by the time engineers and staffers figure out how to make the system do what it’s supposed to do.
