A school bearing President Obama’s name is to be shuttered this summer because of low enrollment.

The Barack H. Obama Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ, will officially close July 1 as part of a district-consolidation plan, The Asbury Park Press reported yesterday.

Students are to be reassigned to two district schools.

The district’s state-appointed financial manager Bruce Rodman, said enrollment at the former Bangs Avenue School, renamed in 2009 in honor of the nation’s first African-American president, has dropped 35 percent in 10 years.
