The FBI has launched a probe into the mysterious death of a Columbia University graduate whose body was found at a popular Panamanian tourist destination.

Special agents from the bureau and Panamanian authorities were awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine how Catherine Johannet died, according to media reports on Tuesday.

The country’s National Police force has conducted raids in the Bocas del Toro province to gather intelligence on the circumstances surrounding the 23-year-old Westchester woman’s death, La Prensa newspaper reported.

Johannet’s body was found on a wooded trail on Bastimentos Island at around 2 p.m. on Sunday, three days after she was reported missing.

Family members on Tuesday posted a sign addressed to the media on the front door of their house in Scarsdale, reading, “Our family is in the midst of grieving. We ask you to respect our privacy. We respectfully decline to comment any further at this time. Please vacate the premises.”
