The son of a hero detective who was shot and paralyzed got promoted Friday.
Conor McDonald, the 29-year-old son of NYPD Detective Steven McDonald, who was paralyzed from the neck down while on duty in a 1986 Central Park shooting, received a sergeant rank.
“He’s always made us proud,” the elder McDonald said. “I have to salute him now.”
The younger McDonald, who will take a new post as a supervisor at the 10th Precinct in Chelsea, was just thankful his dad could be there for his big day.
“I know it’s borrowed time with my dad, it’s a miracle he’s alive,” said Conor. “So to do it in front of him, it’s very emotional. It’s a gift from god.”
