New York City police have arrested the parents of an 11-month-old boy who died after having difficulty breathing.

The NYPD said the baby already had been taken to a Brooklyn hospital when officers arrived at the family’s home Monday night. Authorities said the mother told police she left the baby in the care of other children.

Police said Wednesday they have charged the parents with endangering the welfare of a child.

Autopsy results are pending.
