Plea negotiations may be in the works for Menachem and Rachel Cohen, the Montecello, NY, couple who allegedly duct-taped and kidnapped their own mentally troubled 19-year-old daughter on the Lower East Side.
On Friday, lawyers for the couple waived the six-day deadline for a Manhattan grand jury to convene on the case, often a sign that they are negotiating with prosecutors.
The attorneys, both public defenders, declined to speak after a brief appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court. A spokeswoman for the DA’s office would only say that the investigation is continuing into the felony kidnapping charges faced by the Cohens.
They have been in custody since their arrest Sunday night, when the mother, 38, and father, 40, allegedly held the teen captive in their car on Forsyth Street.
