Shocking photos show the wreckage of a minivan that careened into a construction vehicle Wednesday morning in Brooklyn, killing a passenger and injuring the driver, police said.
The 31-year-old driver of the red Dodge was traveling at apparent high speed around 5:10 a.m. when he barreled into the unoccupied backhoe that was parked near Atlantic and Georgia avenues in East New York, cops said.
The passenger, whose name and age were not immediately available, suffered “severe trauma to the body” and was unconscious when first responders arrived. He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, but could not be saved, cops said.
The driver was taken to the same hospital, and is in police custody while investigators determine if there were drugs or alcohol in his system.
Images from the scene show the barely recognizable minivan in the middle of the street, with a shattered windshield and mangled pieces of metal on either side.
No one else was in the minivan at the time of the crash.
