Penn Station isn’t pretty tonight.

Temps at the busiest transit hub in North America have soared to the 90s thanks to an air conditioner on the fritz, while widespread delays have plagued the Long Island Rail Road.

Nearly every LIRR train leaving the station had 20 to 30 minute delays, while west-bound service from Jamaica has been halted because of a fatality on the tracks in Queens.

Conductors told riders on the Manhattan-bound Ronkonkoma train — which struck someone around 3:30 pm — that the person killed had jumped in front of the speeding train.

That forced delays and some cancellations at the height of rush hour.

Trains were running normally by early evening.

Meanwhile, some commuters were forced to deal with a heat wave because of problems with the station’s a/c.

The area around NJ Transit waiting room and ticket windows was hit the worst, with temps in the 90s.

“It’s not fun,” said Joe Maoeforte, 19, who was waiting for a Jersey Transit train to Trenton. “I was expecting it to be a relief in here, but it’s hotter than it is outside.”

Amtrak, which owns the station, is working to fix the problem, a spokesman for NJ Transit said.

Earlier this afternoon, a tunnel issue caused delays of up to 30 minutes on many NJ Transit trains.

That issue — caused by a stalled Amtrak train — has been resolved and trains are running close to schedule.

But even though NJ Transit trains are running back on time, commuters missed their ride home.

So many passengers have packed the station because of the LIRR delays that it reached capacity.

Police intermittently closed it to clear crowds, then re-opened it when those crowds dwindle.
