A person was killed on a Long Island highway Thursday afternoon when a tire from another vehicle possibly struck their car, officials said.

The car was traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway in Babylon around 2:15 p.m., authorities said.

Police are looking into whether a tire that flew off a tractor-trailer in an accident on nearby Deer Park Avenue caused the fatality.

It is unclear how many people were in the car at the time of the incident and no details about the victim have been released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
