A person was struck and killed by a subway in Manhattan on Friday, authorities said.

The unidentified person was on the southbound express tracks near 86th and Lexington Avenue on the Upper East Side at around 2 p.m. when they were struck by the train, the MTA said. They were declared dead at the scene.

It was unclear what the victim was doing on the tracks and whether they were part of transit personnel. It was also unclear which train hit them.

Subways were rerouted during the investigation, 6 trains were running with delays while southbound 4 trains were going local between 125th Street and 42nd Street, the MTA said on Twitter.
