The New York Philharmonic has announced it will receive a $10 million gift from philanthropist Henry R. Kravis to endow its composer-in-residence program and fund the creation of an award in the field of new music.

Both will be named after the financier’s wife, economist Marie-Josee Kravis.

Finnish composer Magnus Lindberg will be the first recipient of the two-year Kravis composer-in-residence position. Lindberg’s “EXPO” will have its world premiere tomorrow during Alan Gilbert’s opening-night concert as the Philharmonic’s new music director.
