ALBANY — A New York lawmaker is furloughing himself.

Assemblyman Sam Hoyt (D-Buffalo) says he and his staff will be off without pay one day each week until a budget is passed. The budget is already more than a month late as the state tries to whittle down a $9.2 billion deficit.

Unionized workers yesterday won a temporary restraining order to block furloughs that would cost them a day’s pay each week to help address the fiscal crisis.

Hoyt said yesterday before a judge granted the restraining order that he and his staff would suffer along with the unionized workers.

Gov. Paterson ordered the furloughs and lawmakers, including Hoyt, approved the measure Monday.

Hoyt said he remains opposed to the forced time off.
