The polar vortex that brought bone-chilling temperatures to the city Thursday was accompanied by a brief burst of snow around 10 a.m.

“Wow, this snow in NYC came out of nowhere,” tweeted @AWeaverWrites.

“The office collectively groaning at the sight of snow out the window is great,” @ConStar24 wrote.

Some meteorologists had included the possibility of snow in their forecasts while others just warned that it would feel like single digits due to the cold temps and strong wind chill.

“@weatherchannel showing a 0% chance of snow in NYC as waves of snow fly past my window is peak @weatherchannel,” @lasork tweeted about the surprise snow shower.

The squalls were caused by a “pretty impressive band” that briefly passed by the city, according to senior AccuWeather meteorologist Paul Walker.

“We may get a few more flurries, but otherwise, it’s just going to be bitter, biting cold,” he said.

He dubbed Thursday the worst day of the winter season so far.

It will still be freezing on Friday with a high of only 27, but the wind will dissipate.

More substantial snow — up to 3 inches — is expected Saturday.

It will mix with sleet and rain in the evening and then transition to just rain as temperatures warm back up to the mid-40s.

By Sunday, temps will be topping 50 degrees.
