PATERSON, N.J. — Two men were killed and two others were wounded when gunfire erupted on a northern New Jersey street.
But a motive for the shooting in Paterson early today remains a mystery. And authorities say it’s not yet known if more than one shooter was involved.
Paterson Police Lt. Richard Reyes says Taheen Taylor and Dashon Adamson, both 22-year-old city residents, were killed in the shooting, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Summer Street.
The names of the other two victims were not disclosed.
Twenty-one-year-old Tray Von Sparks was shot in the side, while 20-year-old Tario Holley was hit in the leg. Von Sparks was treated at the hospital and released, but Holley remained hospitalized late this afternoon.
The shooting occurred near a residential area. Witnesses say blood stains were still visible at several spots along the roadway, along with police markers.
“All of a sudden a couple of guys pulled out weapons and started firing at the brothers and everybody start scattering,” Paterson resident Harold Stancil told WCBS-TV in New York City. “It was a chaotic situation. There were just shooting at each other for nothing.”
Irvin Jacobs, who told the station that one of the four victims was his nephew, lamented the violence.
“It’s a sad thing that we’re losing our youth to violence and to gunshots,” he said.
