The man accused of beating an elderly Brooklyn woman at her home Christmas morning was nabbed Friday — while the victim’s kin said she is now terrified to be alone.
Career criminal Marc Malone, 50, was busted in the Coney Island home invasion that left 88-year-old victim Lyubov Faynshteyn with a fractured cheekbone — and a fear she now can’t shake.
Malone, an East New York resident who law-enforcement sources say is a drug addict, was hit with charges of robbery, assault, burglary and criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
“I’m hooked on drugs – that’s what I have to say,” Malone said to reporters as he was walked out Brooklyn’s Special Victims Unit on his way to court for arraignment. “We have to get the drug dealers off the street.”
At one point Malone, who dodged questions about the crime, threatened to sue another news outlet and asked the group of reporters, “Are you racist?”
The group of reporters was racially mixed; Malone is black.
Malone has dozens of prior arrests on his record, including busts for robbery and gun possession.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea announced Malone’s arrest on Twitter on Friday morning, writing, “Wanted Update … Christmas Day thief has been apprehended by our detectives.”
Faynshteyn declined to comment on Malone’s capture Friday, only saying to The Post, “Right now, I have bigger concerns.”
Faynshteyn’s niece, Marina Fedorovsky, told The Post that the elderly Russian immigrant has been “deeply traumatized by all this.”
“She is like a baby now. She is scared to be home alone. She is scared that he will come back,” Fedorovsky said of Faynshteyn. “She is asking for someone to be with her all the time.”
Fedorovsky said the family is planning to take Faynshteyn to see a therapist.
“We are going to ask the home attendants to stay extra hours,” Fedorovsky said. “It’s a very difficult thing for a person that age.”
NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill on Friday called the incident “an extremely disturbing crime” as he touted the detectives who made the bust.
Police say Malone shoved his way into Faynshteyn’s apartment inside NYCHA’s Haber Houses and pummeled her as he demanded money at around 7 a.m.
The goon ran off with the victim’s ring, earring and a watch when the senior triggered a medical-alert alarm, cops said.
He was caught on surveillance video at the woman’s apartment building, ultimately leading police to identify him, authorities said. Police recovered the stolen items from Malone, officials said.
Malone has been arrested twice this year alone – most recently on Dec. 13 for trespassing in a NYCHA building just two blocks from Faynshteyn’s home, police said.
He was also busted Aug. 3, a day after allegedly swiping $800 from an East New York Laundromat while armed with a screwdriver, records show. Despite his lengthy rap sheet, he was released without bail.
In his December bust, a judge set bail at a mere $1, which Malone posted, allowing him back on the streets.
