BUFFALO, N.Y. — Authorities in New York say cocaine was being mailed from Puerto Rico to Buffalo to feed a drug ring that also sold prescription pills.

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s office says that investigators have filed charges against 28 people in an investigation state police dubbed “Operation Mechanics.” The group was charged in a 213-count indictment unsealed in Erie County Supreme Court.

Authorities say drugs mailed from Puerto Rico were being sold out of an auto repair shop near a south Buffalo school, as well as a barbershop on the city’s west side and various homes. Police on Tuesday seized an unspecified amount of cocaine, cash and two cars.

The defendants face conspiracy and sale and possession charges.
