NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. — A father faces DWI and child endangerment charges after driving on a sidewalk at a Long Island school.
His son was in the passenger seat. An assistant principal at Herricks High School persuaded him to give up his car keys.
A court deposition says Nassau County police couldn’t do a field sobriety test because they feared the man was so drunk he’d fall and hurt himself.
The defendant told Newsday that he’d had a couple of shots of cognac on an empty stomach. He said he’s apologized to his son and promised it won’t happen again.
