Police say a 23-year-old woman has been arrested after her newborn daughter was found in a trashcan at a New York City hospital.

The baby was discovered at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the trashcan of a bathroom at Elmhurst Hospital Center.

Police say Dawa Lama was arrested Wednesday on charges of assault and reckless endangerment. No information on an attorney for Lama was available.

The baby is listed in critical condition.
