A police officer was shot in the stomach and a knife-wielding suspect was shot and killed when cops opened fire while responding to a domestic dispute on Staten Island Sunday night, sources said.
The officer was hit shortly after arriving at 30 Bridge Court near Fort Wadsworth at 10:45 p.m., according to law-enforcement sources.
Police officers encountered the man in a small alleyway between houses, where he was holding a 14-inch knife, cops said.
The man then tried to push past his wife and engage the officers.
“Shoot me. Shoot me. Shoot me,” the man, said according to Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea.
Cops first deployed a stun gun, which did not subdue the man. They then fired about 10 to 12 times and the suspect was then struck and died a short time later, the sources said. The officer was also hit.
The injured officer was hit when cops opened fire on the suspect.
He was transported to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
Residents in the quiet, tree-lined neighborhood were stunned.
“I just heard gunshots,” a witness, who would provide only her first name, Emily, told The Post. “I was on my porch — I just started seeing everybody running. It was crazy.”
She said cops arrived on the scene within moments.

“The response time was fast,” she said. “I came out and I saw someone being pulled out on a stretcher. Just a whole bunch of cops everywhere, chasing after somebody.”
City Council Speaker Corey Johnson was at the hospital where he said he was “grateful that this officer is ok” and “it looks like he is going to make a full recovery.”
A spokesperson for Mayor de Blasio said hizzoner planned to visit the officer later on Monday.
The NYPD issued a statement on Twitter shortly after midnight:
“An officer has been shot and is in critical but stable condition; a male suspect has also been shot and has succumbed to his injuries.
“We are investigating and will update as more information becomes available.”
