SOUTHAMPTON, NY— Police say a Long Island man has been arrested on a drunken-driving charge after he struck and killed a pedestrian.

The accident happened early Monday in Southampton.

Southampton Town police say 41-year-old Christopher Dean was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz when he struck and killed a pedestrian who was walking on the side of the roadway.

Dean, of Riverhead, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. He is awaiting arraignment. No information on a lawyer was immediately available.

The victim’s identity is not known.
