LINDENHURST, N.Y. — Police on Long Island say they’ve arrested a man who stole up to 40 bins used for donated clothing.

They say he repainted the bins and used them to collect clothes that he sold at a profit.

Suffolk County police say the scam began to unravel Tuesday when a cancer charity reported that two of its clothing bins were missing.

The bins were outfitted with GPS devices that led police to a location in Lindenhurst. Police say that when they got there, they found bins in the process of being stripped and repainted.

Police arrested 29-year-old Cesar Antonio Martinez-Duran on charges including possession of stolen property. A second man, 46-year-old Sergio Sandoval-Martinez, was arrested on a charge of criminal mischief.

Information about their attorneys was not immediately available.
