Cops shot a 46-year-old man who held up an elderly man and then turned his weapon on them after a foot chase in Corona, police said.

An 89-year-old man was sitting in his 1992 Oldsmobile across from 102-14 Christie Ave., around 1:10 p.m., today, when a suspect approached him, displayed what turned out to be a BB-gun and announced a robbery, police said. The robber smashed the weapon on the victim’s left arm and fled, police said.

Two witnesses went to help the elderly man, as plain-clothes Anti Crime Unit cops in an unmarked vehicle nearby saw someone matching the suspect’s description and gave chase, police said.

The suspect ran into a driveway at 96-28 46 Ave., where cops say they ordered the robber to drop the gun. Instead, he allegedly turned toward the officers with a realistic-looking gun in his hand.

Cops fired once and hit the suspect in the left side of his chest, police said.

“We heard the gun shot, but I didnt know it was a gun at first,” said Crystal Ferraro 24, who lives in the area. “Kids are always playing around out here. So I didnt think twice about it. If i knew people were getting shot out here I would have called 911.”

Officers recovered a painted black BB gun, that resembled a real handgun, police said.

Enrique Lugo, 58, a neighbor and community activist, said he returned from errands to see his elderly neighbor getting hauled out on a stretcher.

“People thought he was dead but he was alive,” he said. “Thank goodness. I never expected this to happen in this neighborhood. It’s really sad that this had to happen but I am not surprised. Nothing surprises me anymore.”

The elderly robbery victim was taken to Booth Memorial Hospital, in stable condition, for a gash on his arm. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital in stable condition.
