A bipartisan group of 35 state legislators is urging CUNY to boot a pro-Palestinian student organization from its 23 campuses over accusations of members threatening and harassing Jewish students.
“It’s not about an issue of ‘freedom of speech’, it’s about intimidation and fear,” said Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn).
The targeted group, Students for Justice in Palestine, supports a boycott against Israel. But its advocacy has spilled into anti-Semitic acts on several campuses — including Brooklyn College, John Jay and Hunter, critics say.
CUNY is conducting an independent investigation of the claims.
The Palestinian group says on its Web site that its students are the real victims of a “ long history of repression” on CUNY campuses.
