ALBANY — State Senate Minority Leader John Sampson’s recent car crash caused more than $70,000 in damage, according to police documents.

The Brooklyn Democrat totaled his 2012 state-owned Ford Taurus after smashing into a parked car while trying to avoid a “cat/raccoon” on 108th Street in Canarsie July 13 — and keeping his foot on the gas after being “startled,” according to the documents that pegged the damage to the state car at $35,491.

A Mercedes, BMW and Cadillac also were damage in a chain reaction.
