Fearing staff layoffs, city-elected officials are pleading with Mayor Bloomberg to go easy on midyear budget cuts on city agencies.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer is staring at four layoffs to meet the $308,000 in reductions targeted for his office over the next 18 months.

Even the City Council, which sets its own budget, has been asked to pare $4.9 million.

Comptroller John Liu hopes to skate on the $4.2 million in savings asked of his office by claiming credit for added revenue from claim settlements.

The final call on cuts will come when the budget is adopted in June.
