Amid the bedlam, some police officers were sending commuters to Penn Station.
The suspicious package was found at 42nd and Eight Avenue, outside of the Port Authority. Members of the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit and bomb squad were sent to the scene.
Around 7:15 p.m., police said the package had been deemed “safe.”
Cops closed off Eighth Avenue between 41st and 42nd Streets, snarling traffic outside the busy terminal on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
All entrances to the bus terminal were closed as the package was being investigated, Port Authority sources said.
The Port Authority said the call came in around 6:10 p.m. Around 6:50 p.m., they said the streets were about to be reopened.
