The Port Authority Bus Terminal was partially shut down during the evening rush because a rider arriving from Detroit told officials he may have ebola, sources said.

The agency immediately closed off the north wing of the bus station between gates 60 and 85, where Greyhound and Trailways operate out of, at about 4 p.m. when the man got off a bus and announced he had the disease, sources said.

“We took extra levels of precaution because of information shared on the scene there,” said FDNY spokesman Jim Long.

Workers spent about two hours carefully scrubbing the gates, and then reopened them around 6 p.m.

“A man who became ill at the Port Authority Bus Terminal this afternoon was taken to an area hospital, where medical officials have told the Port Authority there is no indication he has any communicable diseases,” agency officials said in a statement. “Several gates have been closed out of an abundance of caution for cleaning.”

The man, who sources said had bloodshot eyes, was taken to Bellevue Hospital for examination, where doctors found he had no communicable diseases, according to Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.
