A frightened kitten was rescued from the Lincoln Tunnel catwalk early Wednesday morning, according to reports.
Port Authority workers Maeghan Grant and Christopher Lizotte traveled almost the whole length of the tunnel to save the stranded kitty after a motorist called in about the stray, the Daily Voice reports.
They found the shivering black cat approximately 400 feet from the tunnel’s Manhattan exit, Authority spokesperson Lenis Rodriguez told the outlet.
The feline was taken to the Lincoln Tunnel’s emergency garage, where Tunnel & Bridge Agent Christopher Kerrigan gave it water and a box for the journey back to the Port Authority building in Weehawken.
The cat — nicknamed “Abe” after the namesake of the tunnel where he was found — was then taken to the New Jersey Humane Society, where it will take seven days to examine, vaccinate and clear him for adoption.
