A weekend of New York City Pride events begins Friday evening with 50th-anniversary commemoration of the Stonewall uprising outside Greenwich Village’s historic Stonewall Inn, now a nationally designated landmark.
The rally will “reimagine” the events of June 28, 1969, when a police raid at the Stonewall led to demonstrations and resistance, and launched the modern gay-rights movement.
Friday’s rally begins at 6 p.m. at Christopher Street and Waverly Place.
On Sunday, the annual Pride Parade steps off at noon from Fifth Avenue and 26th Street, making its way south into the Village past the Stonewall National Monument, then up Seventh Avenue past the NYC AIDS Memorial Park.
