A former supervisor assigned to investigate fraud in New York City’s child services agency has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison.

Prosecutors say Nigel Osarenkhoe scammed the Administration for Children’s Services between 2002 and 2008. He pleaded guilty to mail fraud in January.

Federal Judge Barbara S. Jones in Manhattan sentenced Osarenkhoe on Wednesday to 33 months in prison. She also ordered him to pay back nearly $564,000.

Osarenkhoe worked in the agency’s payment services department. He oversaw internal reporting of adoption subsidies to families. He also was a member of the agency’s quality assurance unit.

Prosecutors say he used his computer access to authorize fraudulent payments.

Others are awaiting sentencing in the scheme.
